IM HYUNHEE

Im Hyunhee works with ink and paper to explore depth, perception and the space held within a seemingly fragile surface. Through the gradual movement, layering and accumulation of ink, her paintings create spaces that can feel at once fluid and expansive, inviting the viewer to look beyond the immediate surface.

Her practice has developed through a sustained interest in the relationship between material and perception. The restrained nature of her process allows small changes in density, transparency and movement to become significant, creating works that reveal themselves slowly rather than through a single, immediate image.

Im studied Painting and Printmaking at Ewha Womans University before completing an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, London, in 2009. She has maintained an active exhibition practice in Korea, with solo exhibitions including A Thousand Breaths at Gallery Choi, Seoul (2020), A Thousand Sounds of Water at Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art (2019), and Black Flower at UM Gallery, Seoul (2017).

Her work has also been presented internationally, including exhibitions in London and Genoa, as well as at venues including Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art, Bongsan Cultural Centre and POSCO Museum. She was selected for the 11th Youngeun Artist Residency in 2019.
